    O.K., You are wondering if you need this, the answer is yes. This harness will ensure that your new head unit functions like the old one. It allows you to retain accessory power without tapping in somewhere and maybe causing a fire. Now, the buzzer, if you want it, install as directed. Me, I’ve spent too much time in a HMMWV in combat and have an aversion to seatbelts, I know I know “safety safety” but i’m not gonna change and that d@mned buzzer drives me nuts. So if you want a good clean install use this device, if you don’t want to be henpecked by the buzzer, here’s how you disable it. On the black box, push in the side detents and pop up and open the case. Inside you’ll see a tiny speaker on a pedestal over a circuit board, lift it up and off the pedestal you’ll see a black wire and a white wire. careful as these are barely attached to the board. Snip the wires off as close to the speaker as you can. Strip and splice these wires together then tape them well. Throw the speaker into the woods. Replace the cover, finish your install and enjoy your musical journey without the electronic mother-in-law nagging you every thirty seconds.

    The switched accessory power is limited to three amps. That should really be under “Limitations”, because it sure isn’t a feature. Your stereo may work on three amps but most decent ones require a decent supply to work properly. My head unit worked fine for the first couple of smoke tests, then wouldn’t start up when everything was connected. I had it tested and it turns out the unit just isn’t getting enough juice. Other than that, the device works as described (it misses the odd chime here and there) but I would definitely recommend the full-powered version by the same manufacturer (Metra Axxess).

    Some tips on use:
    – Avoid connecting the dimmer or illumination wires, unless you’ve done your homework and you’re sure it’s going to work on your specific vehicle. You don’t want your stereo to muck with your dash lights. Trust me. Just let them each do their own thing.
    – If possible, run RCA cables to the amp and skip all of the speaker wires.
    – Don’t buy this thing at all. If you’re going to fork over a silly sum for a little box that goes “ding ding ding” you might as well do it right: pay a little bit more for one that you know is going to work.
