Some to love. Lot to like. Falls short in some areas., February 13, 2014

To love: The call reception on both the Landline and Cell lines are amazing. The capability to conference cell calls and landline calls is unique and comes in handy. Push to talk is convenient. The ability to set up different ringtones for the for each line so we know whose cell phone is ringing.

To like: Three directories, one for the landline, 1 for each of the 2 cell lines. The handsets are very light yet feels sturdy.

Falls short: No call number blocking. The handsets are numbered 1,2,3,4 with no ability to rename them like LivingRoom, Kitchen, etc. The menu structure is not very intuitive. Too many presses to get to the Caller-ID. It should be a dedicated button on the front. No option for lift to answer, you have to press a button to answer.

The Bad: The handset bases are NOT wall mounted. Only the main base station is. I had to Velcro to handsets (I bought 2 additional handsets) to the wall for 2 rooms. It would have been insanely easy for AT&T to have a cutout in the back of the handset base to allow wall mounting.

I have tried 2 different Panasonic top of the line home systems where the calls kept disconnecting, and the cell reception had horrible static. Yes they were much more user friendly and had features missing from this system. BUT, the most important part of the phone is call quality and this system was by far the best I have tried.

Thanks to Amazon for making it painless to return the 2 defective Panasonic systems before finally finding this system that worked.

    This is a recommend!

I bought these because I don’t have a landline and keep missing calls because I either leave my cell in another room or accidentally flip the mute switch while it’s in my purse. It’s been over a decade since I had a landline and I forgot how much of a GOOD idea it is to have multiple devices ring in the house when there’s a call. These DO allow you to receive and MAKE calls over cell service with the handsets (some seem to think it doesn’t make outgoing calls via Bluetooth), but since you can pair two cell phones with it you have to push the “cell 1” or “cell 2” button before you dial out to choose which cell line you want to make the call through (even if you only have one phone paired). If you don’t read the instructions you might not understand what those buttons do. So far I’ve made a few test calls to and from the phones over cell service and it seems just as clear as using my cell itself if not better. No problems downloading my contacts from my cell either. The fact that it has a speaker phone and answering machine in the base is a definite plus, though since I’m using this with cell only I don’t need the answering machine. Remember if you’re using this with your cell you still need to have a decent signal wherever you put your cell phone, and the cell has to be in range of the base of this phone (mine worked fine from across the house), so it would be perfect to use as an extension for someone who only gets good cell reception in one area of their house… No more hugging a window to talk!

There is a review that says the instructions are “poorly written”. I was able to set this up for bluetooth, adjust the ringers, and sync my contacts without even opening the instruction booklet; the menu on the phones is fairly straightforward. The only thing I needed to read to make sure I was doing properly was using the Cell 1 & 2 buttons to make outgoing calls.

The few cons I could have include that the charging base and phones themselves aren’t very heavy so there’s no real weight to “pull” the phone down into the charging position as you set it down… You have to place it correctly and it would be easy for a pet to knock over. Kind of miss that substantial feel from the cordless phones from the 90’s, but that’s really personal preference and not something a lot of products provide anymore. Most of the buttons are backlit except the cell buttons which is inconvenient but easy enough to find. The phones are roughly the size and weight of a TV remote, and show which cells (1 and/or 2) are connected via Bluetooth right there in the lcd display of the phone so you know which one you can select to call out on. I don’t get calls a whole lot but I do look forward to being able to make use of this set when I do!

EDIT: The ringers aren’t as loud as I’d hoped when they’re on the loudest setting; I put one in the master bedroom and the other in the home office, but I can’t hear them ring when I’m in the living room with the tv on. Since the additional handsets are less than $15, I just ordered a third one for the living room to ensure I can hear it where ever I am in the house. I like how easily expandable it is (and it still doesn’t warrant removing a star since my hearing isn’t perfect); just drop the new handset into the main base to pair it and off you go. The other thing you might miss in the description is that all the handsets read off the caller-ID (in an electronic text-to-speech voice) while the phone is ringing, not just the main base. Nifty, I just wish I weren’t so deaf :-).

I live in a rural area with limited cell service. I originally bought the Panasonic KX-TG7643M but had to return it due to voice quality and reliability. I continued to use a landline for another year before trying this AT&T. The sound quality on this phone is superior. I’ve been able to disconnect my landline and use this exclusively at home.
